Bug bites

We are having a bug bite problem. Beau, my basset/lab mix, likes to lay outside in the grass. However, last week, after he spent some time outside during the day, he came back in with itchy red bumps on his stomach and legs (especially around the front legs where they join to his chest). He's already on Benadryll for allergies, but that doesn't seem to be helping enough. He's still scratching and biting at the spots (to the point of losing the fur). Is there anything over the counter that can be rubbed onto the bites? Is there anything that we can spray on him to prevent this issue?

Second issue we have is a small pea-sized lump that we found on his neck right below his ear. It feels sort of like a bug bite, only firmer-and he's not scratching at it. There is no color change in the skin, no change in size and no reaction from Beau when the lump is touched or squeezed. Any ideas? I thought at first it might be a mast cell tumor, but after researching them online, it doesn't really look like one. Right now my husband and I are just keeping an eye out for changes, but I'm worried and think we should take him to the vet. But I don't want to take him in for something that could be a pimple or a bug bite. What should I do?

I would be relieved to find out it was just abug bite from a vet. So I recommend talking him to the vet.

Over the counter hydrocortisone cream can help with itching. Your vet may be able to prescribe something more effective.

Personally, I use Granulex spray. The bump is probably a fatty cell tumor, completely harmless, b ut I would take him in just to make sure.
