Re: ways to give pill?

My dogs get vitamins each day, Cash is pretty good I stick them in a piece of hotdog and he catches the hot dog, Gypsy will catch the hotdog and move her tounge around and spit the vitamin out LoL... but 90% of the time it works, I would say use a soft tasty treat such as hot dogs, bread, cheese...

Re: ways to give pill?

Cheese cheese if you please.

I take a slice of cheese, fold and break in half. put pills on one half, fold over to cover pills, squeeze between palms for a few seconds to mold the cheese around the pills.

If drooling doggy is standing by watching you mess with the beautiful yummy cheese, so much the better.

Then take the half piece that has NO pills in it, and give it to the dog bite by bite. If the dog does any tricks for food, we will do the trick/begging routine. By the time we get to the piece of cheese with the pills in it, it gets gobbled up so fast, and then I save one pill free piece for last.

Re: ways to give pill?

just putting it in a tiny bit of bread (maybe with a bit of peanut butter) is the way to go.

Have you tried greenies pill pockets? They work for me and my dogs are really sneaky about hiding the pill and then spitting it out.

My vet told me just hold his mouth open, throw the pill in the back of his throat, hold his mouth closed, and keep his head tilted back. Then check and make sure it's not still in his mouth.

I'm sure your vet meant PLACE the pill in the back of his throat. . .you don't want your dog to aspirate the pill.

Some antibiotics need to be taken with food, to prevent nausea and/or vomiting.

I have two out've the four who take pills easily, w/out needing to imbed them into food, however, I usually coat the pill with cream cheese. It stays on, and most dogs like it.
