pug acl problems?

we have a 5 year old pug and she was recently to the vet for a general checkup. we were suprised to find out that the vet says she has a torn acl and will need surgury. about 2 weeks ago she was limping pretty bad and not putting much weight on it. a different vet had said that she probably strained it while she was fighting getting her nails trimmed, and gave us anti-inflamatory pills and it seemed to do the trick, she was her old self again. we are going to get a second opinion. if it is the acl is there other treatments and what is the outlook. thank you for taking the time to read this.

Hi,
Yes, pugs are prone to this type of injury, That's why I don't let mine do a lot of jumping around. I agree with getting the second opinion, if this is ACL, it's pretty much always a surgical fix. He will need to be kept off the leg for two to three months after and may include physical therapy. You will need to keep him slim after as well, so it may well mean a diet if he's overwieght.

Here are a couple of articles that will help you understand the injury.

Hope these help!
