Heavy Breathing in Crate

We got our lab puppy a week ago, she is a little over 8 weeks old. At night while we have her in her crate which is in our bedroom, she seems to breath very heavy and rapid. She only does this while in the crate at night. During the day we setup a child/doggy pen (10 FT octagon) in the kitchen where she spends the day while we are at work or whenever she is unsupervised. She sleeps in there most of the day and never makes a sound. Her breathing is normal. We have her bed in the pen during the day and move it to the crate at night with her safe toys. Any ideas on why she is only exhibiting this heavy breathing at night in the crate?

Thanks...

Re: Heavy Breathing in Crate

Is it warmer in the bedroom? Is the crate a plastic crate? Labs get hot easily, it might be just that simple. Does she seems stressed when panting?

Re: Heavy Breathing in Crate

Thanks for the reply. No it is not warmer in the bedroom. I think the temp was 73 or 74. The crate is metal. I don't think she is stressed but she does like to sprawl out when sleeping with her head out of the bed. Her head is close to the crate when she does this so I am thinking maybe she is just not used to that. In the pen in the kitchen, she has more room. She was a little better last night so I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks again.
