GSD pup acting EXTREMELY strange - please help

I have a German Shepherd male pup (Troy) who is exactly 5 months and he is acting VERY abnormal today. He is house trained and crate trained and has been VERY good at keeping his potty outside since early January. He is a super smart dog. But today when I came home on my lunch break, he pooped (a lot) in his crate so I took him outside and he went pee but no #2. I cleaned his crate out and when I came home 3 hours later there was more poop! Here comes the strange part: he's been acting very shy and cautious around us which is not normal, this dog is a smart, happy, energetic and sometimes abnoxious pup so him being shy was a shock. Since his second accident in the crate, he has peed in the house about 4 times even though we let him out CONSTANTLY. He just looks depressed and he keeps whining for no reason. This is definitely not normal for Troy. He's current on all of his shots, he is hardly around any dogs except for our neighbors (plus it is impossible for any dog to be shipped into Japan without having A+ records) so I have ruled out parvo. Luckily with my last dog I caught parvo quick and gave her an IV at home. But I am lost with Troy... any suggestions will work. If it sounds bad enough I will take him in first thing in the morning.

As the behaviour change was so sudden I would definitely get him checked out by a vet. Good luck!

Gosh I thought so... he just seems so depressed and he is the absolute opposite. I'll get him checked out ASAP.

Hope you find it's something that the vet can clear up fast. The other thing that occured to me is that given his age it might be maturity-related? I'm afraid I've only had bitches so can't really offer any advice. I know females can change behaviour pretty dramatically when they're about to come into season for the first time, including messing and urinating indoors when they have previously been clean. Let us know....

I would definately take him in to get him looked at by a vet. It's always best to be safe than sorry. It could be something as simple that he ate something that didn't agree with him. One of my dogs acted similiar to that and was diagnosed with Coccidia (not sure if I spelled that right). Some meds and she was good as new.

Well I found out my dog is depressed... from the rainy weather! We've only had about 3 rainy days since we've had him (December) and those 3 days are the only days he has acted WEIRD. Today it was bright and sunny, about 70 degrees, no clouds in the sky and he was the happiest puppy ever... and he was a good boyyyy and didn't potty in the house! Whew I feel better. =]

Good to hear that he is back to normal. Does he poop in the house because he doesn't like to go out in the rain or is it bound up with the depression?

I would seriously get him checked if you still haven't. I had a sheltie pup do that very suddenly and it turned out to be that she had eaten something poisonous. She ended up having to be PTS after extensive medical care. I'm not trying to worry you, but just warn you that it should really be looked at by the vet.
