Leptospirosis vaccination

does anyone here vaccinate for lepto? We have high rates of it in my area, and have always wondered about it...
I have been told that there are different variations of the virus and the vaccs may not even help and perhaps cause more problems than anything....
Need some input on this, spring is rolling around again and it makes me uneasy.

Yep, we vaccinate against lepto here in Miami - particularly in my area where there are alot of lakes and stagnant water. (Despite living in what sounds like the big city, I live in an area where there is alot of Agriculture and Wildlife conservation land, so there tends to be alot of opossums, raccoons, and foxes.)

The MLV strand is what is commonly used down here, if not in a lot of places. My breeder only asked that I didn't combine the Parvovirus vaccine with the Lepto because some Tollers have been known to react and shown severe cases of autoimmune disorders. It was a bit difficult to find an even holistic looking vet that wasn't too far to drive to, since many of the practices are stone-cold on DHPP vaccines that are 5 way.

Thanks both of you... I just get some very conflicting answers to any questions I ask the vet.
I dont vaccinate annually, its pretty well on a 3 year basis, since everyone was vaccinated last year, im going to definately look more into Lepto this year.
Perhaps I will call a few other vets too and get their take on it. Like I said we have high rates of Lepto here for the last 2 years and I take my dogs EVERYWHERE with us in the summer.

Chloe was vaccinated as a pup for lepto and we had some issues with vaccinations after that so she has had no shots since. We are waiting until she turns five to get her next set of shots minus rabies because we are almost positive they give her seizures. I have heard that lepto is an issue around here as well.
