Do You Re-Vaccinate?

I found this article to be very interesting involving the annual re-vaccination issue. If we perceive the actual training and feeding of our pets today much differently than in the 1950-60 era, perhaps we should take a look at the vaccines given way too often today.

I do vaccination titers, then vaccinate as needed. It's generally more expensive, but I don't like the idea of overvaccinating.

We re-vaccinate rabies to remain compliant with the law and DHLPP on a three year schedule.

We don't do titers as I'm not convinced they are accurate.

I'm the same as lovemygreys.

My guys will get their rabies every three years. There are a few other things in that vaccination... Can't completely remember... Parvo maybe? Lepto? I don't know :O LOL

After loosing my beautiful German Shepherd 3 months after his annual vaccinations where he was given an exceptionally clean bill of health I am really doing my resaech about vaccinations. Unfortunatley there are many conflicting ideas and opinions and very few studies that show concrete evidence of which way to go. I have although decided that when i get another dog I will not revaccinate annualy but will go on a three year schedule.

I still think the annual vaccinations had a role in my dogs death from lymphoma . Killed him in three months...... miserable way to go..

We vaccinated all of our dogs every year with no ill-effects until we got Chloe. When she had her rabies shots as a puppy, and at one and two years she had seizures at different intervals for almost a full week afterwards each time. The vet said it was normal for small dogs to have seizures and did all sorts of tests to see if she had epilepsy or other disorders and nothing showed. We brought her to another vet who said some dogs can have adverse reactions to certain vaccinations and it was very possible that the rabies vaccination was making her sick. He would not confirm it and wouldn't say yes get her shots anyways or no don;t get her shots. We will not get Chloe vaccinated against rabies anymore but she will receive her other shots every three years. I think she gets parvo virus and leptospirosis and there is one more I can remember what it is though. She hasn't had a seizure since her last shot at 2 years of age and she is almost five now.
There may be a difference between small dogs and large dogs being vaccinated as well. Up until Chloe all of our dogs were large breeds, Catahoula Leopard dog, GSD, Boxer and Chloe is toypoodle maltese. I don't know???

My dog hasnt been vaccinated for almost 3 years, he needs to be, and I was planning on doing it every year, but after reading this, I am not as worried about him not being vaccinated, he still needs it, (I always thought my parents did it) but now I am questioning constant revaccination.
