Need help with two problems

Hi, I have two problems with my little buddies.
First, the Doxies and the Cairn are feces eaters....in the months where the weather is not so severe, we keep the yard very clean. Now I have seen the little Doxie run out and grab a frozen turd, before I could get him he ate it...yuck

Second, is car sickness. I want to take my two Doxies out to parks and such, but 5 min into the trip and puking starts. Especially from the younger one. I even withheld food when I took them to the vet and he still puked. Both ways coming and going home. Any suggestions on how to prevent this.
Thanks
Nancy

first!
most dogs will try to eat feces if they are missing something in their diet. Try putting chicken or beef broth in their food.

If the dogs are throwing up in the car when ever you go out even when you with hold food, ask the vet to supply you with motion sickness meds for them. Our pit can not go anywhere unless we give him a couple of tablets. Our GSD though is fine with it

Eating poo is most often not related to anything missing in their diet. It seems to be more prevalant in winter time...apparently poop is much tastier when it's frozen And bitches may be more prone to it than dogs (I have no idea why...our old vet told us that, though it doesn't hold true for our hounds. Our boys are the poo eaters).

Why do they do it...who knows! Tastes good...they're bored...Kibble has filler in it. A lot of that filler passes right through the dog and into the poop, so my guess is that it has something to do with that. I've never seen a dog eat a "raw diet" poop.

We are lucky w/the greyhounds b/c we can put a muzzle w/a stool guard on to keep them from eating what we haven't picked up yet. You can try additives. I've heard people have been successful using canned green beans, pineapple or Adolph's meat tenderizer. There are products specifically marketed to make poo unpalatable...usually the active ingredient is papain (also found in papaya, pineapple and Adolph's meat tenderizer ) Mostly I've found that keeping it picked up is about the only way to guarentee a dog won't eat poo.

(If you do add beef or chicken broth, though I've never heard that to stop poo eating, make sure you use a low or no sodium version!)

No advice on the car sickness...sorry

We recently had this issue with a new little mixed breed we brought home from the shelter. She was about one year old when we adopted her. She would eat both canine and feline feces with gusto. The shelter had the dogs on Pedigree dry kibble. Since our other dog has allergies and is on a higher quality food, we switched the new pup over to that. She hasn't touched feces since.
When I spoke with the vet about it he said that they will sometimes eat cat feces because they are higher in protein. And he had no explanation for why they eat canine feces other than boredom in some cases.
