Help, puppies worms

Hello all im new here and just had a question. We have puppies and its obvious that the puppys have worms(can see eggs), they have an appointment already to get dewormed and their shots on friday. I called again today to tell them about the worms and they suggested waiting anyway, just to give the medicine to the new owners so that they cannot reinfest themselves. Chances are less likely to get it again if they are only with them selfs. Ok so I can deal with that but have a question regarding keeping my house egg free. I have kids that are constantly trying to get at the puppies, and my mother who will come over and feed the puppies using my bowls. Then wash them by hand and put them away.
First of all thats really gross to me, she knew they had worms and said that the soap and water would kill them. Seriously thats just not ok. So now I feel like just soaking all my dishes in bleach and water. What kills the eggs anyway?
And should I wait til friday to get them their meds for the worms.
Oh by the way they are six week old standard poodle puppies.

Thanks for your help
Meg

6 WEEKS old ? Puppies should be de-wormed at 20 days . Why have you waited to de-worm for this long ? No wonder they are infested , I would just go to the vet today and grab the pills and then get the vac's done on Friday . Sorry I cant help with your house/egg issue .

Re: Help, puppies worms

These pups should have been wormed at LEAST twice by now with a 3rd worming to go home with the new owners. If you vet doesn't know this, then FIND A NEW VET! Intesinal parasites can casue a huge number of problems including malnutrition and anemia. GET THEM WORMED NOW!!!!!

When are you planning tro release them to the new owners? Most states have laws that you can't release the pups until a minimum of 8 weeks. I personally reccomend 10-12 weeks for good socialization.

Re: Help, puppies worms

If these puppies are in your home, then so are the worms, larvae, and eggs. Yes, I'd be concerned about anyone in the home contracting worms, especially kids who put their hands in their mouths all the time. I'd get those pups wormed today, keep them confined to one room, and start washing everything with hot water. Be sure to get baseboards and the tops of door mouldings as the eggs can be airborne and land on just about any flat surface. I would run kid toys through the dishwasher every few days until the puppies are clean of worms.

Re: Help, puppies worms

Thanks for your comments. I called the clinic today and they are getting our meds ready. I asked them about the 20 day thing and he said thats what they suggest as well. I informed him the person we talked to said to wait until the pups were with their new owner, he didnt really have an answer as to why she had told us that. So im alittle upset this could have been handled when we took them in on their first vet visit. I guess I just went with what my vet told me. We are not letting the pups go until atleast 8 weeks but if we feel they are not ready we will wait.

Thanks again

Was that your vet that said wait till they are with their new owners ? I would be changing vets if that's what they told you . Glad to hear your getting it done today . My pup had been done early as well and when I got him I took him in to get checked and the vet recommended another 3 times . So 4 treatments in all with Interceptor .
