| Re: Are debarked dogs more prone to aspirate? our collie is also debarked. (no flames, he came to us this way) He did have pneumonia last year. I do believe it was an aspirational pneumonia. I was feeding him dry food and the food was getting caked onto his back teeth. I believe that last year when the kids were home from school on Easter break they had him out playing after he ate and some of the food that was caked on his teeth got loose and he aspirated it. Since that time I always wet the dry food and there is no longer a problem with the food caking on his back teeth.
My Vet didn't believe it was from the debarking. BTW... our dog still has a bark, many times it is very quiet, but there are times he surprises us with a good WOOF
Just to add.. We really do think our dog aspirated, because he was at a show the weekend before he got sick. The Vet said for a young healthy dog to get that sick if it was viral our other dog would have gotten sick and they would have seen other show dogs with the same thing.
