Cephalexin overdose?

I had 250mg of Cephalexin prescriped for my 15lb puppy, to treat some infections from red mange. I had been giving it to him in his soft food.

Today, my 9lb Chihuahua/Rat Terrier mix snuck and ate his food while my back was turned, and I'm pretty sure that she ate his Cephalexin, too.

Is there any reason for me to be concerned? She turns 12 this year, and even though she's in good health, I'm worried that this could be too much for a dog her size.

Re: Cephalexin overdose?

The usual dosage is 10-15mg/lb every 8-12 hours. So for a 9lb dog, 90-135mg 2-3 times daily. 24 hour max should work out to be 405mg.

That's just the med math on it. You should still call your vet. But I highly expect you'll be told to monitor her closely and don't let her eat any more medicines not prescribed for her.
