Sleepy after shots

My puppy had his third round of puppy boosters today at 9am and still has no energy at all. He can lift his head and get up if necessary but he has been essentially asleep all day. Is this normal?

Well, it's normal for pups and dogs to be a little groggy after vaccines to a certain extent. Depending on the size, breed, and age of the pup, the vaccines have varying drowsy effects. However, if you notice that tomorrow morning (or tonight for that matter) he is excessively tired, vomiting, or itching - then you should definately rush over to your vet and have him treated. Generally, when pups or dogs are allergic to vaccines, it happens rather quickly, so it sounds as though this is not the case, but I do advise keeping a close eye on your pup to be sure.

Vaccinations can have adverse effects on a dog's immune system. Most commonly this occurs with older dogs, but can occur with young dogs also. If this is the case, it could be serious. I suggest taking you puppy to the vet. You might also look at his gums to see if they are pale. They should be a bit pink. If they are pale, he's become anemic and that might possibly be a sign of an autoimmune reaction. Anemia would explain his behavior.
