Update on Lola & Her Liver Failure

Well, we still do not know what is going on with Lola. She is still jaundice (off the scale bilirubin exceeding 477) as of December 5th. We have stopped doing blood tests because they are always coming back the same and her red blood cells were dropping due to them taking so much friggin blood!

The vet at Guelph that was rotated onto Lola's case was not compassionate or willing to explore other avenues and told our vet that because he didnt know what was wrong with Lola that he thought we should euthanize her....our vet said she refused to do it because she was not acting like a sick dog and as long as we could afford it (which we really cant...thank god for visa!!) that we should continue treatment!

Myself and my mom believed that Lola's lack of improvement was based on how many different antibiotics she was on. Since this was not working we are now visiting a naturalpathic/homeopathic vet and Lola has improved. Her appetitie, energy levels have increased and her jaundice appearance has decreased! She is getting a "remedy" of different homeopathic things and now we are going to be including acupuncture this wednesday.

She has lost weight and is down to 9.6lbs (she was 12.6lbs in October) but she is not "wasting away" but is just very thin.

We plan on continuing a natural way of healing for Lola because it seems to be the only thing that is making her comfortable and I believe in the positive methods that the vet is using! She still has a long way to go, but we are keeping our fingers crossed!

Re: Update on Lola & Her Liver Failure

Lola is 2 years 5 months old. We believe that her bilirubin levels reached an high around the beginning of December because she had 4 seizures over the course of 8 days and hasnt had any since. But unfortunately because the scale only goes as high as 477 we do not know how high it was and how much it may have gone down. Hopefully when we get her blood checked again (sometime in the next 4-6 weeks) her bilirubin level will actually be readable!!
