Older lab problems

I have a 9/10 year old Choc Lab mix, Chevy. We got her in 2004 and since we have had her she has had problems. We found over 40 ticks on her the first night we had her. She has limped on and off over the years. The main problem is she licks herself constantly. Last she licked herself bald. We took her to the vet and they tested for allergies/mange/fleas, basically anything that could be wrong. She has open sores we spray with Lanacane and Bactine. We took her to another vet before we moved who gave her some pills that were supposed to stop the itching , all it did was give her bad gas. We think she has a psychological problem since she shows signs of abuse; terrified of certain noises, correct another dog/animal/person she runs and hides, looks like someone broke her leg(s) at one point and were not fixed correctly. She also acts like she has no sense of smell at times. Can't find food/treats on the ground.
Can anyone help?

Re: Older lab problems

Could be food allergies. What are you feeding her? The vet can give her a corticosteriod injection for the allergies. Steroids can be nasty, but if she's suffering that much, it would be worth it. Has she had a tick panel? Some of the tick-borne diseases can cause those kinds of issues.

Re: Older lab problems

Had the same problem with my first dog-she was a lab/shepherd mix and had all the same stuff you mentioned.
It turned out she was allergic to the food I had been feeding her for years-I switched to single ingredient foods-like lamb and sweet potato by a more upscale (expensive!) company. Her fur eventually came back. I also know that she became allergic because of the many immunization shots I gave her. I only became aware of the every three year rule after she got sick-she had been getting shots every year. I'll never forgive myself for that.
The limping I fixed by giving her Synflex-its an arthritis medicine that my mom took-I gave her half the dose and the limping disappeared after a few months. I bought the Synflex online-it's a great product!
In the end, Dingo needed alot of care-all these things basically weakened her alot. But she lived to almost 13 years old so I feel I did the very best I could.
Good luck!
