| Mint and Dairy? My ten month old is a horrible teen and has me scratching my head at some things, but this, it just stumps me.
Marley has alot of kongs. It's a fun way to get him to use that brain of his and it makes movie watching easy ><. He does NOT like peanut butter. I know, it's so odd to me as well. All the other dogs I have ever been around LOVE the stuff. Marley hates it. instead, he'll do anything to clean your cereal bowl when you're done drinking the milk. And he loves mint. Sevreal times I've caught him running out of the bathroom with the toothpaste in his mouth. Along with foot cream and candy canes on the past christmas tree were soon taken down.
Now, I know that I should take the mint away from him, (even thought my dog would probably have the best breath ever!) Because clearly toothepaste and foot cream is NOT good for dogs. But how about the milk? He likes cream cheese and stuff, but sometimes I let him have a spoon full of milk if he does something really good and he loves it. Is dairy bad for dogs? It doesn't seem to be bothering his poo and I was wondering if that random lap is causing him problems. ><
And, is there anything I could maybe get him that's minty that is dog safe?
if there isn't that's fine, but if the bugger likes it, I just wanted to see. ><
figures, I get the weird one ><. Haha. |

| Re: Mint and Dairy? I know yogurt is safe and a good Kong stuffing (especially if you freeze it in the Kong). |

| Re: Mint and Dairy? I don't think dairy is necessarily detrimental to their healthy, but dogs are generally lactose intolerant so it can often upset their stomachs. My dogs have stomachs of steel and regularly get yogurt or small bits of vanilla ice cream; I have never given them actual milk. If your dog can take it, there's nothing wrong with a bit of dairy now and then. If he really loves it, there is pet milk that doesn't have lactose in it. |

| Re: Mint and Dairy? I have a dog that hates peanut butter too!!!! It is weird isn't it??
I've also see doggy mints. They smell minty but are doggy safe, or well they're supposed to be. I don't know much about them to be honest. |

| Re: Mint and Dairy? Human toothpaste can be toxic to dogs. Quote: |
Human toothpaste contains the active ingredient fluoride to help prevent tooth decay. Other active ingredients include antibacterial agents such as Triclosan to control plaque, Sodium bicarbonate, enzymes, and Xylitol to reduce bacteria. One must spit human toothpaste out after brushing because fluoride can be toxic if too much is swallowed. Dog toothpaste on the other hand is completely digestible. The active ingredients in most dog toothpaste include Glucose Oxidase and Lactoperoxidase. These ingredients have properties that help to break down sugar, and they are natural preservatives.

Yogurt contains a TON for lactobacili that help even the lactose intolerent to digest it properly. It was the ONLY dairy my mother could eat comfortably. So yes, Yogurt is good for dogs. |

| Re: Mint and Dairy? I know the toothpaste is bad for him. Humans can't swallow it, why can he? He's licked the closed cap once or twice, but as soon as he comes out of the bathroom with his head ducked, he's either got the that or the TP. So most of the time the door is closed. that's cool about the yogart, I never knew that. Guess you learn somehting every day, right?
Is cream cheese okay? or Nefutel (spelling incorrect) When I asked around for penut butter alternitives I got that and he likes it. It doesn't seem to both him, but I don't know if it's messing him up inside. Geesh, now I'm scared ><
Thank you for the help! I've learned alot from it. |

| Re: Mint and Dairy? Yup, cream cheese and Neufchatel are fine. As long as he doesn't get an upset tummy from it, it should work as a Kong stuffing.
Most human toothpastes have fluoride, which is toxic if he eats too much of it. And look out for xylitol (also toxic), some brands use that for sweetening. I'm not sure of mint-flavored dog products. Look around at a pet store and see if they have anything. They're always coming out with all kinds of new stuff. |
