Growths around mouth?

I have a nine-month-old female Brittany puppy, Bella. I was out of the country for nearly three weeks and just returned yesterday. Bella was at a kennel for that time. When I picked her up, I noticed something on her face. It looked like dirt, but when I tried to clean it off, it was this weird growth. I took her to the vet who found that there were two growths on one side and two tiny ones on the other side. The vet has no idea what it is and is currently removing them for biopsy and analysis.

Does anyone have any clue what this could be?

(The growths are about the size of a finger tip to the first knuckle. They appear to be scarred over, and only attached on the bottom.)

Re: Growths around mouth?

In case anyone else has a similar situation, it turns out they are warts. Google had lead me to believe that was possible, though the really big one seemed too big to be a wart. My guess is that the other dogs at the kennel were chewing her face which irritated it and caused it to get bigger, but that's total conjecture.

But now I know not to worry if they come back.
