poor pup in hospital

Hi all, I took Brady to get him nuetered, The vet called and said he is doing ok. I droped him off on sat. and we had to go to MS to get packed and moved. We won't be able to pick him up until Wen. I'm hoping he is back to normal by then. I'll feel so bad if we pick him up and he is looking/acting pathetic. I know he'll be better off in the long run, but I hate to put him thru surgery and anestishia when he wasn't ill. While he was out they removed his dew claws, sealed his teeth and put in a micro chip. The poor thing got it from all ends.

He will be fine. Probably very happy to see you as well! All vets use their own methods, but at our practice, we make an incision in the belly, along the shaft of the penis. We use dissolvable stitches. The penis, lower belly are shaved, so he may be a bit itchy till it grows back a bit. Usually, dewclaws need to be removed in the first three days of life, but since he was under anaethesia, doing it later can be done. He MAY have a stitch there, depending on a bunch of things, that wil be what bothers him the most. Thanks for microchipping him!

Sorry so long to get back, we have been moving and my modem was in the moving van. inaly back on line. Brady is doing fine. He has 3 incisions on the shaft of his penis. They told me bring him back in 2 weeks to have them removed. I think he has already removed some himself as only one side still has any. We have been keeping the E collar on him when unsupervised but he can still lick himself. It does keep him from getting to his front paws though. There is actually a longer incision and more stiches in his paws than from the neutering. I am really dissapointed that the breader did not have them removed as a new born. I'm not sure why she didn't as she had the tail docked. Most do it at the same time. I asked my vet in MS and the one here in TN that did the surgery and both said since he would already be under to do it as if he got one snaged on something it would be more painful/expensive to do later. He really seems fine, just hates the E-collar but he would really be going after the stiches without it.

Glad to hear he is doing well. I have been wondering! Moose beat his e-collar to crap after the first week. (he had eye surgery as well, if you remember) he bent it inside out once! (his shoulders were well protected!) He learned to drink from the toilet with it, managed the doggy door and the woodshed. I will say Moose has had some interesting behavior changes since the neuter. This 160+ St. Bernard now believes himself to be a lapdog.

Glad to hear everything went smoothly. That is pretty odd that the breeder didn't remove the dewclaws when she had the tails docked.

bigdawgs-- someone needs to tell your Moose (i call all big dogs that, i'm amused that it's actually his name.. hehee) that he isn't exactly a Chihuahua. Heh.
