Why does my dog eat dirt?

My dog, Bentley, has started eating dirt along with the grass that he sometimes eats outside. The grass has always agreed with him but the dirt is another thing. He swallows alot and then one or two days later he throws the whole mess up.
I think he's missing something important from his diet-any ideas?
I feed him Halo dry dog food and my own chicken with a spritz of omega 3 oils for his coat.
Thanks for any help! Surella

Re: Why does my dog eat dirt?

From all I've heard and read over the years, a dog who eats dirt is definitely missing something in his diet. I know nothing about the food you feed (haven't heard of it) but probably he's missing something. Have you had bloodwork done on the dog in awhile? That may point out some problems you could address.
