Please Help...Broken Pelvis

Hi my name is Christy and Im new here, I dont know what else to do, My just barely year old pup whom i rescued from the pound has a broken pelvis. Now healed, if thats what you'd call it. She is being treated as though she has hip displasia, really her pelvis was broken and ever healed right, now its very narrow and she limps and will never beable to have pups. We're not sure if she will be crippled soon or if she'll respond to the medicine, My vet gave her seabones, rimidyl pills once a day which are now gone and we dont go back to the vet till 2/10, and a few other pills and a monthly shot.
I was really just curious if anyone else knows how i can help her, or what medicines i should try to get her on, and really....if the surgery is worth it or just puts them through more pain???
Please help, shes my baby and i cant bare to see her cry anymore...

Thanks so much,
Christy

If she is painful, it sounds like the surgery would be the best option. It is different with each case as to where the breaks are and how they will heal, if surgery is necessary. With a year old dog in pain though, it sounds like that is the best option. I would talk to a board certified surgeon about your best options.

Why would you want to breed this dog anyway? You got her from the pound where so many are already being killed. There is no reason to bring more into the world to end up in the pound with a broken pelvis. They may be able to spay her during the pelvic surgery, that would be best for her.

If she is painful and you are out of pain meds, you should call the vet and get the medication refilled.

I dont want to breed her, shes already spayed, im just saying that so you can picture the narrowing of her pelvis bone....

I wouldnt do that to her, thats beyond cruel, it would have killed her to try and have pups...

thank you for your reply, I was leaning towards surgery but i wasnt sure if the pain afterwards would be worth the end outcome, i'll be talking with her vet soon, thank you again

My pup also has a broken pelvis she was hit last Wed. We still don't know if she will walk yet. But I was told to not do the surgery because she has a better chance of walking with it healing on it's own. She will never walk the same if she does at all. She will most likely always have pain from it, so I understand your heart break. Mine is still at the vet and will be for at least 3 more days.
