| Vet shaved off more than fur of dog Hi all
Ive got an older Aussie Shepard, 14 years, was very active until about 6 or 8 months ago. used to have a 2nd dog who got sick and died just over a year ago. This one started to always follow me, clearly bored and lonely.
so about 8 months ago he started bleeding thru the nose for no reason. it stopped on its own but very alarming. 2 months later it started up again, then a week later, then 3 days later, then every day, then 2 times a day.
it would be run to put paper towels on the kitchen floor and just wait it out, vet had no idea. I suggested plugging it up, got some gauze for that, it kind of worked, better than nothing. after an episode it would be 15 minutes of mopping up all the blood on the floor. he lost alot of weight and got frail
I came home from work to find he had been put outside during peak fly season, and had fly bites on his rump. Not knowing what happens next? it was a week or so, dog really stunk then I found the maggots under the skin in his rump area and tail. one of the most disgusting things to see. rushed him to the one vet, they shaved his rump and pulled out the maggots, gave him vitamin K, quick wash and he was on his way. still nosebleeds.
On friday nite into AM saturday the worst nose bleed. So I take him to the other vet thats open 7 days/week. they saw a few more maggots on the tail and did nothing, suggested overnight stay and nasal endoscopy.
reluctantly I did. after about $1000 of next to nothing, I get him back, the endoscopy was just a peek up the nose with a light, they never had the endoscopy machine like they told me. lots of fur on the stomach was shaved off, they gave me 10+ needles with ephedrine or speed which constricts the veins, so during a nosebleed, squirt the drug up the nostril. probably not good for his aged heart with low blood supply?
okay well I have him at home and while scratching I notice some stickers, the vet had taped some stickers onto the paper to show what a lousy dog owner I was or ? Then I look closer and notice his belly was shaved, and so were the male dog nipples! shaved off! I know they were there because each summer during the time ticks are common I check him/wash him and notice them there. now they are scabs.
Now my months may be a bit off because he got shaved in October? and NONE of the fur has grown back.
his fur would just pull out easily in the tail area when I first saw the maggots, clumps of hair came out. when the other vet "brushed him" they ripped out clumps of fur thruout. his neck? a huge bald spot, all the fur is very thin, he used to sleep outside, cold weather didnt bother him, now? shivers when going outside, no more fur.
I called to the vet to speak with the top doctor. she cannot believe the nipples got shaved off, bring him in so we can look and see what happened
I show the vet and her response was "oh he wont miss them" and she said no, those were not nipples. What are you talking about?!?! these are scabs! apparently I find out its a way to stop a lawsuit since they apparently get sued alot. they checked his temperature, looked at him and tried to charge me and extended office visit fee. I said no, before we started I told you the vet said to bring him in, its a no charge visit. that didnt go well. after some back and forth, they said we will ask the main vet and they will call you.
That became this concocted response by them, making up things I never did or said, and to take my business elsewhere, they would send my files over. it was like they TOTALLY realized they messed up and were now hostile with me after I kindly and politely pointed out what they did wrong.
My dog is still frail, is incontinent, back leg muscles very weak, falls down walking up the 1 step into the house sometimes, falls down in the car going around a curve, front leg seems to dislocate itself at the shoulder at times, he limps on it.
but that vet knew of the fur condition and ripped out fur, they shaved off his male nipples, which I took photos, they promised me the endoscopy exam which was a lie, but they charged me full price, I used to work at a place that makes endoscopy tools and know what they are.
it seems there must be some veterinary oversight department? here in California? and this dog drinks LOTS of water, seems like almost a gallon per day? will lap up water for 4 or 5 minutes, has stinky breath, appetite good, does not throw up. last thing, someone had shot him with a large BB or pellet gun, its lodged in his skin at the spine about a foot up from the start of the tail or so. the one vet said its okay to leave it there, and it would be MAJOR surgery to remove it??? huh? I could take an exacto blade thing and some iodine and get it out myself
okay thats it, any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated. |
