Dogs fur falling out.

Hello, I have a 6 year old german shepard, lab mix dog. About 3 months ago Ive noticed that he began loosing clumps of fur mainly around his neck area. He doesnt scratch it off and in fact I rarely see him trying to scratch himself at all. The fur simply falls out leaving bald bare pinkish skin.

This has never happened to him before so Im baffled as to what is causing this. Any help would be appreciate! Thanks.

Welcome to DF.

I would have him examined by your vet as soon as you can. Since he is 6yo it's possible the loss of hair could be caused by a thyroid problem. Please have blood work including a thyroid test done ASAP and go from there.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Nope. Nothing has changed about his eating or anything else for that matter.

I may have to end up taking him to a vet. It seems like this isnt a common occurrence that happens to dogs.
