Husky cataract

Hey guys,

I have a year old husky. About a week ago, his eye got poked probably while playing outside. It was squinty for a bit, so I figured I'd let him heal and if didnt get better I'd take him to the vet.

So a few days pass, he stops squinting and goes back to normal. But then his eye starts showing cloudyness, a sign of some sort of problem.

I take him to the vet, he believes its a cataract developing and not trauma related. Hes forwarding me to an eye specialist in the area, but I won't have an appointment for another month.

I've researched a bit, it looks like juvenile cataracts are really common in huskies. But what about the trauma incident? Was it just co-incidental timing that his eye got poked and a week later a cataract is developing? Or could the vet be wrong, and it is trauma related (corneal damage?) and not a cataract?

Does anyone have any sort of experience with this? Thanks

Re: Husky cataract

Did they use the dye and the black light to look for a tear or a ulcer or any other problems in the eye in the eye ?.. If a dog scratches or hurts the cornea they can get a corneal ulcer and the eye will cloud up it can be as easy as giving them eye drops or it may require surgery to repair it.

Re: Husky cataract

Im not sure about juvenile cataract. Bubba had cataracts in both eyes and the Optomologist had to do emergency surgery because he had it really advanced she didn't want him to develop glaucoma. Glaucoma is not reversible - cataracts can be removed but if you wait a month it might be too late. Bubba developed cataracts due to diabetes and like i said, i'm not so sure about juvenile cataracts.
