Is my dog in danger?

Hello all,

Today, I went about things as I normally do before I leave for school, making sure the dog was inside, locking the front door, etc. But I forgot to lock the back door, and my dog opened it and got out. I left at 3pm and came home around 8:30, but didn't notice anything wrong until I listened to my answering machine at around 10:45... seems my neighbor called at 6:30 and said my dog was soaking wet walking around his yard. I then see the slightly open door and rush outside to find my dog, and I see it walking around my backyard. She was soaking wet (it's been raining on and off for the past 5 hours), and appeared to be extremely fatigued, walking very slowly, no tail wagging, didn't respond to her name, etc. I took her inside and me and a friend towel her off and use a blow dryer to get her dry and warm. I offered food and water but she won't touch either. Now she's just laying in one spot with her eyes open, breathing heavily and not moving around.

I checked for wounds and anything else out of the ordinary and she didn't look like she had any physical problems except for the exhaustion.

Is this simply a case of an extremely fatigued and exhausted dog, or could something more serious/threatening be a possibility? I'm hoping she will fall asleep, get a good night's rest and awake rejuvenated in the morning.

Any advice/input is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Re: Is my dog in danger?

No one can say for sure over the internet. Your dog needs to be examined by a vet if you want answers. Our forum is happy to share information with you on specific diagnoses and other members' experiences with them. But we do appreciate if you post AFTER the dog has been checked out by a vet. Please post again and let us know how it all turns out.
