Is there a reason this dog won't eat?

Not my dog... she licks her bowl clean!

My landlord has a German Shep. she's a very sweet dog but some of the ways he treats her I don't agree with. She lives in an outside kennel that is overgrown with weeds, and he lets her roam. Although we live on a 15 acre farm his house is not far from the road and she has been picked up quite a few times by neighbors and once by animal control.

all that aside...

She's really skinny (we use a 1-10 scale with horses and i'd say she was a 2.5). At first I assumed he just didn't feed her and I honestly thought about taking her to an animal shelter. The owner swears he feeds her but she just doesn't want to eat. When she shows up at my house I'll give her a dry/wet food mix and if I stand there sweet talking her she'll eat it. However I have seen that her owner has a full bowl of food and she won't even pay attention to it. She's a nervous dog but before I keep giving her can after can of my dogs wet food I want to make sure there couldn't actually be something wrong with her.

I know he won't take her to the vet... what should I do?

So sad, her guardian obviously could care less. Did you come out and ask him to take her to a vet? Have you called AC? However, I don't know if they would do anything since there is food, water and shelter available. Do you have laws about roaming dogs?

It does sound like she might have a medical problem. I guess it depends on what you really want to do. If it were me I believe I would take her to the vets and see what's wrong. Of course if she does have a problem then what are you going to do?

Let us know what you decide.

From a owner of a fussy eating dog, maybe the dog is just that - fussy.
