How much did you pay for 'cherry eye' surgery

I'd like to hear from any dog owners who have ever paid for surgery to fix 'cherry-eye'. Two days ago my 10-week-old beagle puppy developed a case of it in her right eye. It appeared quite suddenly over a matter of hours but so far it isn't causing her any obvious discomfort or pain. We spoke with our local emergency vet and I did some research in the meantime.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I've already done my research and I'm aware of the various forms of treatment for cherry eye. We all have to make our own decisions and mine is to have this taken care of as completely as possible with the dog's well-being in mind. This afternoon I will be talking to my vet about surgery. For the time being I'm just looking to hear from other folks who have paid for this surgery in the past.

For anyone who has done so, how much did it cost?

Thanks for your help!

Re: How much did you pay for 'cherry eye' surgery

I went to a vet who's a Bully Specialist and therefore does the surgery frequently. He charged me $125.00 an eye and did any needed repairs for free! We did the tack procedure which is the most successful still maintaining the tear duct. My dog had the condition for over a year when I adopted her from the HS so it was more difficult to get the desired result.

An Opthamologist will want to charge you as much as $750.00 an eye and will not stand behind their work.

Questions you need to ask you vet:

How often do you perform this proceedure? (experience counts on his operation)

What is your policy if the proceedure doesn't work? ( some will give you the repair at half price, the best will do it for free)

Which proceedure do you prefer to do? ( I do reccomend the tack as it keeps the tear duct in tact and reduces the chance of dry eye and eye lesions)
