Chance's obstruction...(poopy details)

Well...

Where do I start.

I have thought a lot about this and I think I have more information than I did Saturday night.

But we will start with then. I was sitting around hanging out and it was about 1am. Had some people over. And I notice Chance threw up in the bedroom. So I clean it up and put him outside. Then I notice he is squatting and looks generally unhappy. I call him inside and I see he has messed all over himself. Not really sure whats going on, I clean him up.

He kept...leaking for a while, and kept going outside. I figure something is wrong, so I brought him in the bathroom with me, put him in the tub, and cleaned him some more. While I was cleaning him up I felt something. Something hard. I called for my SO, who told me I needed to help him right away, and got me gloves. (4 to be precise- I double gloved it lol) After much grunting and whimpering (on his part not mine) he passed what was stuck. Im not sure what it was- but after now 3 days of making sure nothing else is stuck- I can say he is fine.

I have him on boiled chicken and rice for the time being and he is going to the bathroom normally. It was EXTREMEY scary to go through, and I thought I was going to have to rush him to the E-Vet- but I would have if I couldn't help him.

So just take what happened with me and Chance as a warning. As normal as you think your dog is, he may be in pain. The more I think about it, the few days before Saturday Chance was pretty gassy. I dont know when whatever it was got stuck, but I can tell you since then he has been the happiest dog!

In case anyone wants to guess, here is a link to a picture I took.... after I washed it off. This was all in one piece when it came out. Its not bone.. and it doesnt seem like a rock...

I had this happen before...I don't know what she got into, but she hadn't been groomed in a while so her back end was really fuzzy....and had diarhea and ew, it was pretty nasty...she gets groomed frequently now!

Chance probably ate a bunch of stuff he couldn't digest and it turned into a nasty package of devastation! At least you noticed something was wrong before he injured himself!

Glad Chance is doing better!

Onyx had a similar issue before we started them on raw. She had been working on a smoked bone for most of the afternoon (before I knew better!) and later that night I noticed she would squat...strain and nothing...move about 3 ft over and did the same thing. We ended up taking her to the vet to see what was up. I was afraid of an obstruction of some sort. They did an x-ray and it was bone. They said to take her for a long walk and see if she could work it out herself. If not, bring her back in the morning.

We went for a long walk and she squatted a lot with no "product"...but when we got home, she finally went! and then she was fine a few more times after that.

That night after the vet appt we cleaned the smoked bones out of the house.

The diarrhea didnt upset me as much as the giant blockage sticking out!
