Question White Dogs Owners! A question about white dogs ...

We have a white JRT. My vet said that he may need sunscreen on his ears and his eyes could get drippy with a lot of sun. We live in Colorado, and we have A LOT of sunny days. So far, I haven't used any sunscreen on him, and he seems to be fine. Does anyone use sunscreen on their white dog? I'm afraid that my other JRT, who is a very clean female, will lick it off him and get sick. Does anyone have a sunscreen they recommend, or should I just wait to see if he shows signs of needing it? Plus, how will I know if he gets sunburn on his ears/eyes?

We use "Water Babies" sunscreen on horses (white noses...not the whole horse. That would be a LOT of sunscreen!!)

I think I would only do it if your dog was out in the sun w/no shade for long periods. And then, I'd be more worried about heat stroke, than sunburn.

I have used this product on my horse's nose. I like the fact that I can control how I put it on. They also make a spray.
This product was suggested by my doctor for my scar tissue on my forehead (got hit in the head by a gate a horse kicked ouch).

My dog is completely white (with some black spots ), but I don't use sunscreen on him because when it's too hot, he's not outside for long. It is ok to use sunscreen on them, it won't hurt them. Now, LeRoy;s eyes do get drippy at times when it's super sunny. I just wipe it with a soft rag.

SO's uncle has just adopted two albino dobies that require sunscreen. But my white dog that isn't an albino doesn't need it.
