i took 2 of my american eski's for their rabies vac. to petco. this is the first time i've gone there for this. i knew there was going to be some dogs there but i had no idea it would be so many. well i brought the crate for them because with my disability i'm unable to hold them both if they decided to take off on me and with the amount of other dogs i thought it a possibility. anyway, my female was on a leash with me and the male was in the crate.
all of sudden my female got really runny diarrhea but there was blood drops in it. i've never seen this before i thought she had gotten her period but then when we came home she didn't have it anymore. i don't know if it was really in her poo or not now. she's not used to being around so many dogs and in such chaos. the woman helping there said it was nerves. she ended up going in different spots in the store while i looked for paper towels. (i didn't know they have them on every endcap)
what do you think? has anyone ever experienced this before? she seems fine. this was all before the vaccination. we were just waiting in line. she has lymes disease, could this have anything to do with it. i'm pretty sure she's getting her period soon she has started that whole licking thing and the males are smelling her alot.
i have a tendency to call the vet for everything and it usually is nothing so i thought i'd ask here first this time.
Stress, Lyme disease or anythng could have caused bloody diarrhea. I'm surprised they gave the vaccines if your dog is not well. That is why is it important to have an exam (vaccine clinics do not do exams) before vaccines are given.
Dogs do not "get their periods" like humans. Humans have a menstrual cycle and dogs have a heat cycle.
Most dogs start coming into heat sometime after 6-8 months of age. This can be preceeded by a bloody dishcharge. The dog, when she is ready to ovulate, comes into heat and is recpetive to a male dog and can get pregnant.
Humans are altogether the opposite. They are shedding their uterine wall and have their period and typically cannot get pregnant during that time frame. Humans do not come into heat when they ovulate.
Let us know what the vet says. Blood in feces can be from a wide variety of issues, some of which can be serious.
Our dog Mickie used to get bloody diarrhea every time my husband went away on a business trip. Yuck. Vet told us he it was his nerves. After many years he grew out of it.
well katy is fine the vet said that's what it was "stress induced" nothing to worry about. i think i'm going to take my other two in before their vac's to "browse" so they feel more comfortable. i don't think they will have a problem though they think everything and everyone is there to play. they never have a care in the world ahhhh to be that way! thank you all for your thoughts and advice and i'll be sure not to start a thread that way again.
