Ringworm isn't diagnosed by a simple scraping. They have to prepare a culture and give it a couple of weeks to grow. But the culture will tell you exactly what kind for ringworm your dealing with.
But keep in mind that ringworm is contagious, even to people. Especially ones with a low immune system such as chidren or the elderly. I would be washing my hands after touching the dog until you know for sure what's going on. Better safe than sorry.
