Sprained leg?

Scoobie, my ten month old Golden mix, went outside to the backyard tonight and when he came in he was limping. The limping seems to have gotten slightly worse since he insists on trying to play with the other dogs. He also is my velcro dog so unless I sit perfectly still he thinks he has to follow me. I checked his paw and foot and can't find anything obvious. He isn't whimpering or crying and other then seeming a little pouty seems fine. Is there anything I can do for him? Should I put ice on in like you would a person?

Re: Sprained leg?

It could be a number of things. If it is serious you will prevent further injury by doing the following: crate, restrict movement (out on the leash back to the crate), take him to the vet as soon as possible.

Re: Sprained leg?

Do you have rocks outside?

I took my dog to the beach and he jumped into a tidepool and onto a rock. He was limping all day, but still persisted on running for (we cut in short) 15 minutes on 3.5 paws.

It was gone the next day. So you can let him sleep it off since you feel it is not serious, and then if by noon he is still limping yet not getting better, I'd take him in just in case.

Re: Sprained leg?

Thanks for the input guys. He is just very slightly favoring it today so I am going to watch him and see. I don't really have rocks in my backyard but it is very uneven.

I'm going to see if I can get him to stay stillish and if not I will crate him like AC suggests.

I feel like a first time mom with the ACK my baby has a slight fever type stuff.

Okay so now I ended up crating him because he was running up and down the stairs and starting to limp more, silly pup.
