pregnant and not eating

Hello. I am hoping anyone can provide me with any help about my pregnant dog. She is 3 almost 4 weeks pregnant and she has stopped eating and being playful. I have taken her to the vet and all blood work came back ok. She use to eat anything and everything, always alittle fussy about what dog food she would eat. I have tried getting her to eat anything I have, she will take one small bite and turn away. If I do find something she will eat, such as lunch meat or hotdogs she will throw it up in less than 5 minutes. Today I put the same lunch meat in a chopper and she wouldn't eat it, but if I took another piece of lunch meat and gave her quarter size pieces she would eat it but throw it up. This has gone on now since Dec 25th and I am so concerned for her and her pups that they aren't getting enough. I have tried giving her a bowl of milk and she turned away from that as well. I just don;t know what else to do, she has to be hungry. She is also not herself in other ways. She is not playful and seems so sad all the time. This is her first litter and can understand that she may be confused about what is happening to her body. Anyone with any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's not uncommon for a pregnant dog to loose her appetite in the 3rd to 4th week, and it's not much of a concern if she is eating at least a little bit. If the problem persists past today, please consult your vet again. The pups will soon be growing rapidly if they aren't already, and nutrients at this time are a must. When was the last vet visit?

She was seen at the vet on Dec 30th. The receptionist just called a few minutes ago to see if she is feeling better and I explained she still wasn't eating, seems they want to give antibiotics. Her blood work showed alittle low in protein and white blood alittle over but not much but otherwise fine. I told them the amount of food she keeps down doesn't even equal a 1/4 cup per day. Thanks for the reply.

Hello. The vet called me back and I explained everything, he wants to do xrays on her to see whats going on. I did get her to eat 2 saltine, 1 plain,1 with peanut butter on it. But... the only way she would eat it is if I put it in her mouth. If I just put it down she turned away. I hope she will eat soon, as feeding her little pieces of food one at a time is not easy.

I'm so glad you're taking her to the vet for tests. I could see her losing her appetite, but throwing up the little bit of food she takes from you really concerns me. There is definately something wrong-and her pups can't grow normally if they don't get nutrition from her. You need to get her to the vet right away. Good luck and please keep up posted on her condition.

Your dog is pregnant, and hasn't wanted to eat and has been vomiting for 10 days??? This dog needs to be hospitalized on IV fluids and a full workup done to find out what it going on.

I hope she makes it. If she does, please consider having her spayed so she doesn't have to go through this again, and so we don't have anymore unwanted puppies that have to be killed because no one wants them. So many dogs are killed everyday because there aren't enough homes to go around. Why bring more into the world?

Unhappy

Sorry to hear that! You must be so worried to loose sleep at night.
My heart goes out for you and your dog. Since I don't know nothing about dog, I Just hope it is like human morning sickness and pass that period the soonest possible. Keep us updated how she is doing.

Hello, alittle update on Molly. I believe we just have a very picky momma here and not sick at all. My kids and I were eating and I tried to give her some hamburger and she eat a piece, she didn't turn Prime Rib down, nor has she turned any meat down. I fried up some hamburger for her today and she ate it all and it all stayed down. Maybe all she is craving is meats, who knows. I'm not glad to see that she's eating something. She finally got her belly full and seems much more content.
