katiethebordercollie is on a distinguished road
New Memeber needs help!

Im not sure why I can post here and not at the Health section, but Ill take what I can get.

My border collie Katie seems to be very sick..
It started, I think, 3 days ago. I noticed she wasnt active at all, very lethargic, wasnt eating, or going to the bathroom much. At first she was getting around all right, but wobbeling a bit. Now she isnt getting up at all. She tryed to get to her water bowl and couldnt quite make it, she would have fallen over if I hadnt caught her. At first we thought it was hip dysplasia because of her walking problems, then we thought she was pregnant, which the pet store confirmed. You see I live in a small town, all the clinics/vets are closed on weekends (great, huh?).
Then we realized that about two weeks ago we had our septic system replaced, it turned out that our old one had leaked into our yard. She had been walking all through it for weeks probably, if not longer. You know the rest, she licks her paws and getting e coli poisoning. And because we were kissing her head and paws, we got sick.
We had been giving her Benedryl the past couple of weeks for her allergies, not knowing about the pregnancy.
So our thinking is that either all her energy is zapped from the sickness and the puppies taking it all up or..
She has a serious invection that we cant afford to fix.
The emergency vet we spoke to on the phone said that there are human meds we can give to her (we havent given her anything yet, not until we know more). We established shes not in much pain, maybe discomfort. Right now we're spoon feeding her mashed up chicken and rice as suggested. Shes taking it and seeming more alert.
(We are pretty sure shes 3-4 weeks pregnant, she is 6 years old and this is her first litter).

If anyone recognizes these symtoms please contact me ***please don't include your e-mail within posts***
or message me through here.
We're very close with her, the last 3 days have been very sad. We've prepared ourselves that we may have to put her down tomorrow, but we're hoping for a miracle.
If all you can provide is your prayers and postive thoughts, we much appreciate it.
Thank you for your help.

Our health forum is for discussing health issues after your dog has seen a vet, not before. I know it may not read that way, however, the internet is not a very good place to find a diagnosis or remedy. So please consult your vet ASAP and best of luck to you and your dog.
