Taking my dog on a bike ride?

I have bad knees and so I cannot run but walks don't seem to tire out my 10 month old Golden Retriever/Australian Shepard mix. He isn't hyper or anything but has started taking to chewing stuff up. I was thinking I could take him on a bike ride with me while having him run by my side. I was wondering if this was a good idea and how I could do this safely. Also, considering his age, would it be bad on his joints? How long of a ride should I do? Do I need to buy him booties to keep the cement from tearing up his paw pads?

Also at what age can I start doing this with my 3 1/2 month old Lab/Golden Retriever mix?

no earlier than 18 mos. I breed retrievers and if my puppy people bicycle with their puppies or do any formal exercise they void the joint section of the health guarantee.... its important to protect those hips and joints so its just not a good idea until all growth has occurred

Okay 18 months it is then, thanks! That's exactly what I needed to know. No hurting the puppies. I hear joints are slightly important
