buddy has stumped the vet

he is a weird dog.

that thing on his foot like, died and fell off and the vet was sure it was a tumor. so he's stumped.

and well, yesturday buddy started doing this seizure like behavior. he like, rocks side to side and his eyes dart back and forth. but he still responds to us. like...you can tell he's trying to look at and keep looking at us when we call his name when it's going on.

i thought maybe he got too over excited that dh came home and a little stressed. but he's had some time to relax from it all now. and not 5 minutes ago he did it again for like, the 5th time since yesturday.

i took him to the vet this morning. and he's got no clue. sent us home telling us to keep a close eye on him. try to call him when he's doing it and see if he responds. and pretty much just monitor frequency and severity.

this is what it's like. it's nothing huge, but you can definitely tell something is going on

Could the vet put him on anti sezuire medications and see if it stops?

Looks like it might be a stroke. The eyes move like that when they are having one. Please keep a journal of the times and the duration of the seizure. If your vet doesn't know, I would definitely get a second opinion perhaps a neurologist. He should have suggested that.

The eye movement looks like vestibular involvement. This could be something in the brain, such as seizures or inflammation, or even somethinginteh ear (the ears are important for balance). I agree that keeping a journal and then talk to your vet about referral to an internist or neurologist for further evaluation if they continue.

If your vet doesn't mention it, ask about the possibility of Idiopathic vestibular disorder. Is this something that happens randomly then he's OK in a little bit? Or is it something ongoing where his balance and orientation are continually affected? I agree the eye movements resemble a vestibular disorder of some sort

we ended up at the e-vet 2 days after dh came home. it was a nice welcome home gift. lol. he started doing it sunday morning and didn't stop. it was a vestibular thing. essentially (sp?) vertigo. so more antibiotics, a pill to help with his balance, and ear drops. *sigh* it just won't end with him! lol.

he's gotten better. but it was absolutly heart breaking to watch him wobble around the house and run into things.

so it's back to the vet saturday for a recheck to make sure he's doing better.

then...it's to the vet with gwen for vaccines next month.

can i have a month go by without going to the vet?!

If I could..Id grant you 10 years without a vet visit! So glad he is doing better.

I'm glad to read he's doing better. You had me really worried about him! It's weird how scared you can be for some one elses dog that you don't even know.

Lol I want to go a month without going to the vet too!! Can we all have that one? If you figure it out be sure to hand over the secret!!!!

thanks everyone. it was really scarey when it first happened. it was so confusing cause he was still responding to us and never went completely stiff. dh walked in on me laying in bed cradling him and crying before we went to the emergency vet. i'm so glad it wasn't anything major.

I am so glad to hear that he is better- wouldn't want to see any dog go through that all of the time-so glad it could be taken care of
