Lab/9 Weeks - Vomitting every night??

I have a 9 week old Lab (Mako) and the last 4-5 nights he has vomitted every night between 2-4am... the first time he wakes up after going to sleep. He only throws up a small amount and it is always undigested food with a few sticks mixed in (I try to stop him, but he eats just about everyhing he can outside).

We started switching over to Merrick Puppy Plate from Purina Puppy Chow (breeder's choice), but we only introduced a very small amount... only about an 1/8th of a cup and we feed him a full cup three times per day. In the throw up is always a few of the carrots and peas from the Merrick.

I have a pre-scheduled vet appointment this coming thursday and will address it then, but was just wondering if anybody has any ideas?

Thanks,
Ted

If it was my puppy, I would certainly keep him from eating anything except the dog food . Sticks and stuff generally aren't considered edible and even though it is hard to be quick enough to get those yummy sticks before they are swallowed, I would make every effort to eliminate them from the diet so the Vet can make a proper diagnosis. Good Luck... Oh Yea, the way some dogs scarf down their food (without chewing a thing), it's normal to see whole carrots that haven't been digested come back up.

I would also make sure the puppy keeps drinking water and check his poop to see that his is eliminating okay. Take him to the vet sooner if the condition worsens.

If this started happening when you started making the diet change, I would stop feeding the new food. Sometimes they can't handle certain foods. Go back to the original food and just feed that for awhile to see if he stops vomiting.

Yes, try to keep him from eating strange things. I know it is hard.

When is his last feeding before bed? How long has he usually gone without food before he vomits?

I love the name Mako.

How do you feed him? Is he free fed, where he can graze from his bowl all day long, or do you do scheduled feedings?
