| Rimadyl I did a search and couldnt find much info on here but have seen people mention it before.
Chance is on Rimadyl for his strained hip, has anyone had experience with this before? If so, can you share your experience with me? |

| Re: Rimadyl I had a dog on it and had no problems with it. It has been proven to cause liver/kidney problems in some dogs. Before I would put a dog on it, I'd do a blood panel to make sure everything is functioning ok. If it is long term, I'd probably do another in 30 days, then every 6 mo.
There are safer NSAIDS out there now, like Previcox. My newest addition, (an 11 yr old Golden/lab mix with an old hind leg fracture, a chip in his shoulder and mild hip Dysplasia in one hip) is on Previcox.
For short term use, you should be ok, though. But if you notice a change in bowel/urination, or vomiting, I'd get to the vet. |

| Re: Rimadyl Thanks! He is only on it for 2 weeks. I dont have the doseage handy because I am at work, but he gets half a chewable pill twice a day. We go back on the 19th of July to see if he needs tests for hip dysplacia, which I hope he does not. I am really thinking he just has a sprain. |

| Re: Rimadyl While he's on it I would suggest going to a pharmacy and looking for Milk Thistle tablets to give along with the meds.
Or, look into finding un pasturized Apple Cider Vinegar and add it to his water daily. ACV does wonders for joint mobility as well as helps the liver repair itself (as Rimadyl has a rep for liver/kidney damage)
Good luck and I hope its not HD *fingers crossed* |

| Re: Rimadyl I haven't had reason to use Rimadyl on my own dog, but I've seen it work very well for an uncountable number of clients' dogs. As suggested, if it were for long term use, and especially if Chance were an older dog, I'd want bloodwork done before and during use. But short term use in an otherwise young and healthy dog... should not be a problem at all. |

| Re: Rimadyl Weird. Gabi is on rimadyl for bladdar infection. The vet said it would help with the symptoms of her straining the bladdar. She was going (or trying) like 10 times an hour the other night. She seems to have responded well to it. What type of medication is this? |

| Re: Rimadyl It's an anti-inflamatory medication, working similar to Tylenol or Advil for people, but safe for dogs. |

| Re: Rimadyl When my Great Pyrenees developed arthritis we tried it for him, but he had a very bad reaction to it, bloody diarrhea, so we had to take him off of it immediately. But I understand that for most dogs it's very effective. |

| Re: Rimadyl I had my Norwegian Elkhound on Rimadyl for a few years, it worked great for her arthritis. She had blood tests every 6 months. Good luck. |

| Re: Rimadyl Ilya and Lola used rimadyl for a week when they had their heartworm treatment. It was suppose to help with the pain from the long needle they used in the hip. They had to eat something first or he would get nausous looking.
We had to change Ilya's pain meds to tramadol because he was getting too stressed out and tramadol had a sedating effect. |
