| Help, Concerned!!! I have a 2 year old female chihuahua and there have been some occassions where she poops and we find a good amount of blood mixed in with the poop. We assumed maybe it was her period but we are not sure. Can someone give me some advice????? We are concerned. |

| Re: Help, Concerned!!! I would get her to the vet asap. There would not be blood in her stool from her being in heat. |

| Re: Help, Concerned!!! That's not how periods work. (Not even in humans!)
It is quite possible that your dog has a serious problem in her intestines somewhere. Please take her to a vet immediately.
And while you are at the vet -- talk about scheduling her to be spayed? If you don't know enough to identify when your dog is in heat, you should not preserve the possibility that she could get pregnant. |

| Re: Help, Concerned!!! My dog has already been spayed. The last time I did notice the blood in her poop was maybe 2 months ago. Then earlier today I noticed it again. |

| Re: Help, Concerned!!! Get your dog to a vet and bring a FRESH sample for a fecal exam. That's the ONLY way to find out what's going on. |

| Re: Help, Concerned!!! if she's already been spayed then it DEFINITELY can't be from her "period"....like the others said, get her, or at least a fresh stool sample to start, to your vet and get checking on what's going on..... |

| Re: Help, Concerned!!! It could be a lot of different things -- parasite, inflammatory bowel disease, food allergy, bowel obstruction, etc. The vet will help you figure it out, starting with a fecal exam to rule out the most obvious things. Just scoop a spoonful into a plastic baggie, label it with your dog's name & the date and take it into the vet. I usually take samples from 2-3 consecutive days since some bugs (e.g. giardia) are difficult to detect with just one sample. I wish there was a simple answer for you, but there are so many possible causes that going to the vet is the only answer. |
