Cracked paws

On the paws of my 8month rottwieler's feet she has crack's/little cuts that sometimes bleed a little, though i only notice this in the winter. Is there anything i should put on them to help condition them? I know i don't want to make them to soft or it will cause her problems, because she does get exercised outside 1 hr a day or more. Help?

Udder balm. I swear by it. Can pick it up in most pet supply stores, and can order it online too.

Oh, and lots of walks, take sidewalks and hard surfaces now and then, it'll toughen those pads up!

Yes my Zircon used to get that when he was a pup but after he got to be two years old it was not a problem. I try to avoid places where it is really salted and for a while I had him wear booties, but I gave up on that.

Unhappy Allie's problem...

My 2 year old black lab mix, Allie, has a cracked paw and it is swollen. Since it is close to Christmas and a weekend, I would prefer to not take her to an emergency vet. She is favoring it a little but still putting weight on it. This is my first dog and the first time this has happened!

Any advice is welcomed and thank you so much in advance from Allie and I! We appreciate it!

you can at least call the E-vet to find out if it's something that can wait or if you should bring her in.

Thanks! They said it can wait as long as I keep an eye on it and I keep it clean... Hopefully it will heal fast like everyone keeps telling me!

The product the one poster was talking about is called "Bag Balm." It works very well.

Bag Balm, awesome stuff!

If you live in an area that is highly salted, I'd look into getting boots for your dog to help protect the pads in the winter time. Combine drier air (drying out your pups pads) with salt on the roads can be quite harsh on their feet.
