I would check on this w/ your vet, a neighboring family has owned this breed and they can be prone to CHF, Which has symptoms like heavy breathing and coughing. I'm no professional, but the symptoms caught my eye.

same here.

We to have an american straffordshire that we adopted a week ago, the think he is about 2 years of age, but we have noticed that he makes this hacking noise, like he has a hair ball, which i'm guessing is him couching...sometimes he gets into sperts where it will last for like 10 min. non stop, so my question is did you ever find out about your dog? any advise?

Both Shonda and Z23_DAD need to take thier pups to the vet and get them checked out.

Shonda- the coughing could be a sign of kennel cough. the problems breathing could be a breed thing, but it should be checked out to make sure something else isn't going on. and the nose drainage could be a sign of something worse and definetly needs to be checked out by the vet.

Z28_DAD- your dog sounds like it has the classic signs of kennel cough, especialy if you adopted him a week ago. The vet is probly going to give him some antiboitics and will definetly give him some cough syurp/pills if he is diagnosed with kennel cough.

I'm glad you got it resolved. Kennel cough is contagious, so if your dog has been around others it may be a good idea to let the owners know.

It usually clears up fairly quickly, so I hope you see an improvement soon!

There are several things it could be. Have you had a chance yet, to go to the vet?

There are breed specific problems, but it could also be something else, that would need the aide of an antiabotic to help clear up.

Good luck!
