Any oral flea meds that work?

Does anyone know if there are any oral medications that actually work for fleas? I can't seem to get the topical stuff to work on my husky. Her fur is too thick for it to penetrate, and she won't sit still long enough for me to move the fur aside knowing I have medicine in my hand.

Capstar will kill all fleas that bite in a 24-hour period. But I don't think there's any oral flea product that lasts longer than that, since that one dangerous product was taken off the shelves.

Ask your vet about a new product called Comfortis. It's a once a month pill that gives residual flea control for a month, I think.

Capstar worked great on my cats - I could watch the lil bastards jump off. But, I swear my dog(s) are immune to it.

With a thick coated hyper dog, sometimes Frontline spray is the way to go. It's worth a shot. I've also seen natural supplements that are supposed to help with fleas, but I couldn't vouch for their effectiveness as I've never used them.

Re: Any oral flea meds that work?

I use comfortis for my dog and it works great. I've been very pleased with it, he's been on it since january. Its a pill you give them once a month. He used to be on frontline but he still had fleas ALL the time. now, if I see a flea on him its usually dead or moving VERY slowly, about to die, but I rarely see them on him anymore.

I have two Poms - with thick hair - and have used Capstar. It is only good for 24 hours but it will get the fleas off that are there and give you a chance to get a topical medication or spray on your dog.

I can vouch for CAPSTAR, it kills fleas within 30 mins. However, you have to give the pill often.
