11 years old dog perianal adenoma and enlarge prostate?

My poodle has a perianal adenoma and an enlarge prostate. The vet said if he is neuter the prostate will reduce. My worry is that he is 11 years old, although very healthy...should I accept the neutering? thanx

11 isn't terribly old for a small dog....is he a miniature Poodle (or toy)? 11 is getting on in years for a larger dog, though. But even if he is larger, if he's otherwise healthy surgery should not be a problem, as long as the vet does bloodwork first to check for kidney and liver problems. Are they going to remove the adenoma, too, or just do the neuter?

It is a miniature and yes he will remove the adenoma too.

Well, then, I'd go ahead with the neuter. It does help to shrink the prostate, and, since they're also removing the adenoma, you're not risking the anesthetic for just the neuter. Make sure they do the bloodwork first, though---if he has an underlying health problem, they need to be aware of it so they can adjust the anesthetic properly.
