Unhappy My golden has Lymphoma

Hello, I am new to forum and just need a little help.
My wife and I,and our son found out today that out 7 year old Golden retreiver has lymphoma.

We are all taking it very hard and I even have a hard time writing this.
The vet gave us 2 choices , we chose to go with chemo and see where it leads us and our buddy.
He is still playful and sometimes energetic but easily gets tired which is expected.
We are waiting for an appointment to be made by out vet to an oncologist for further blood work and tests.

Just wanted to know if there are other support groups on net for canine lymphoma, I am having a hard time to find sources.
This seems like a fine forum and like the idea of forums like this.

Thks

I am not sure if I can help you with Lymphoma in dogs but what I would sugest is when you talk to the Oncoligest see who closly realted Lyphoma in dogs is to humans. In humans there are 2 main groups. Hogkins and Non Hogkins. One is curable (Hogkins) the other can only really be put into remision. However in humans both are very treatable. In Non-H lymphoma there are several differnt groups also. Again you need to find out if this is the same in dogs and if so which group your dog fits into. Some are slow growong and at least in humans are not agresivly treated. The more agressive forms are treated and really easyer to get ride of.

I will tell you from personal experiance. What is left after treatment sometimes is just about as bad as befor just will not kill you. However, I will say this again. Humans and dog are differnt and you need to see how they compair. If they are somewhat simual you maybe able to find out more.

Best of luck what ever you deside.

I would suggest that you read through this thread.

http://www.dogforums.com/13-dog-heal...uin-100mg.html (Antibiotic - Zeniquin 100mg)

It's title is misleading because they hadn't diagnosed the dog yet, but it is all about Lymphoma. It is sad, but the story isn't finished yet, and is probably worse than your dog anyway.

Any advice I would have for you, would be in that thread already.

Good luck, and please let us know what happens.

Buddyboy888, my heart goes out to you. I just had my 8 year old German Shepherd put down today after his bout with Lymphoma. He stopped eating and we elected to treat him with the steroids to give him a better quality of life and not subject him to chemo. He would get better and active for a limited time and although we kept him eating alot of beef and venison he continued to loose weight until he could no longer walk without falling.

He was perfectly healthy at his last vet visit in September for his routine vacinations. I hope your dog has one of the rare strains that responds to medication and you are able to prolong his life in a quality fashion. i don't regret keeping my dog alive for the last three or four weeks but knew this morning there was no hope anymore.

What exactly was the diagnosis of your dog?
