15 year old Rottweiler's incontinence

I have an aging Rottweiler named Princess who has a few issues, half blind, mostly deaf, a bad vertabre that has given her a fair limp-but she still seems very happy, dances and wags her tail for food and takes herself to visit our nieghbors when ever she can. My problem is she has become incontinent, mostly while she's asleep but she leaks when she's awake also. I've started shampooing my carpet every other day and put down pads. Is there any other suggestions you may have? Any one know of medicine that helps? this has been going on for about five months-started slow and has become very frequent. Thanks for any help!

Call your vet. There are a couple of different medications that can help this problem. Proin is one, another is cystolamine. My Misty was on it and it helped for awhile.

My first dog had spay incontinence, and we kept doggy diapers on her. It was easier than putting pads down all over the place. You can get cute ruffly panties, too . I've heard that, if you don't want to go all out with doggy diapers, you can use boys/mens briefs (depending on the dog's size), putting her tail through the crotch opening, and placing a sanitary pad in the proper place.

rhw, Sounds like good advice here. I just wanted to say from one Rottie owner to another. Congratulations on such a long lived Rottie. So few of them see past 10 years. This is a testament to the love and care she has received from you. God Bless.

I was going to mention the same thing..a 15 year old Rottweiler, you are so very lucky to have so many years with your dog. What is your secret?

I hope you find something that helps.

Thank you all for the good advice, we appreciate it! As for her longevity ,the only thing I can think of is we eat a lot of junk food and she tries to get into the trash all the time...maybe we've preserved her! Just kidding, she seems to be a mix maybe part lab...so that may have helped.
