My Dog Is Sick. Please Help

hi all. i am new to this so here i go . does anyone have any advice: my dog has an enlarged liver and had a bad chest x ray. the vet is awaiting testing from MSU for a fungal pannel of the lung. his tummy is distended somewhat and his urine is rust in color. the vet said the urine is this color from the liver. he is on cipro 250 mg 2 times a day and a strong antiparacitic. his x ray showed a pnumonia, fungus or cancer according to the vet. there were 2 small nodules in the lungs that concerned her. does anyone know if the nodules could be lymphnodes and NOT CANCER? why is his liver enlarged? will the rust colored urine go away with anitbiotics? HELP

Re: My Dog Is Sick. Please Help

Its hard to say, I am glad your Doc is running a bunch of tests. The liver detoxifies everything so if he got into any kind of toxic substances it could cause that effect.
How old is your Dog?
Unless they do a biopsy of the lung nodules it would be hard to say whats going on, are any of his lymph nodes swollen at this time? Like back of legs , side of the face etc.?

Sorry I can't be or more help but at least it sounds like you have a good Doc who cares.

Keep us posted.

Re: My Dog Is Sick. Please Help

bubba is 6 years old, and to young to have this problem!!!! his fungal pannel came back negative. now he has to go to michigan state for more tests. problem is, it's about $1000 to walk in the door. they have a program of half down and half when you leave. he acts better today, urine is starting to lighten a tiny amount. we pray for him all the time. i can't feel any limphnodes that are swolen, but there is one spot at the bottom of his rib cage that is about the size of a pea, don't know what that is. i am calling state wednesday to check out programs for him. vets should be like hospitals for people: treat you and then send the bill, but there are no laws that protect dogs. the law sees our (babies) as nothing more than possessions. thanks for your comment it means so much to me. say some prayers for my baby.

They have financing plans for people and pet medical care.

Hope your dog gets better soon. If it helps, I have a Cocker Span that started vomiting blood that was diagnosed with either liver cancer or a liver infection. She was at the vet's on IV's for 2 days, then sent home with 4 different meds to be used for 30 days. Vet said if it was cancer, she wouldn't get better. Well, she got better, and her bloodwork at 30 days was normal (when this first happened her liver numbers were horrible). She's doing fine now (or as fine as a 14 yr old blind/deaf dog could do..). I hope you have an equally good outcome.

Re: My Dog Is Sick. Please Help

i'll say some prayers for your little baby!! i found a prayer on the net for dogs. it says to commit your dog over to the care of God, and pray for the vets and all that are in contact with your dog. do it once an hour for 9 houres. it did it for my bubba and he seems to have improved. i still don't know if it's his time or not, but i prayed that if it is that he will not suffer. i am sure your baby will be ok. your are loving him or her and are a great "mom", younger dogs are resulant and he will recover.

Re: My Dog Is Sick. Please Help

i just thought of something that might help your little one. my vet put bubba on vitamin e, it is a natural healer of sorts. maby run that one by your vet. good luck

hi spotted nikes! bubba feels a little better. i opted not to go to michigan state, because at this point it is quality of life for my boy. he just freaks out at the vet, so much that he has to be wrestled to the ground and tranqualized, it's just horrible for him. so i am going to try the natural way and just LOVE him up! i can't put him through any more needles and stress. i'm just gonna let god take it from here. glad to hear your baby beat the odds, sounds like she has someone that realy loves her
