Exclamation MAJOR flea problem

So my 4 month old Shih Tzu has a MAJOR flea problem! I want to get rid of them because they are really bothering her. The problem is I don't want to intoxicate her with that horrid flea medicine! How do I get rid of the fleas without intoxicating her?

Intoxicate her??

I have been using Frontline on my pets for years and it has never had an "intoxicating reaction" to any of them. Your dog MUST be miserable with all those fleas. Treat her now. Trust me, you don't want an infestation in your house. Once they take hold they're nearly impossible to get rid of.

The flea meds are completely safe (at least I know Frontline is).

Re: MAJOR flea problem

But DO NOT buy the flea meds from the grocery store or Wal-Mart! Those are very toxic, especially for small dogs. You need to get the flea meds from your vet (or from a good online store). Advantage, Frontline, K9 Advantix, Promeris, and Revolution are all fine. And, really, there's no other good way to get rid of a large infestation of fleas.

Aggie is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: MAJOR flea problem

go to the vet.

Get a capstar (will kill everything on her- not eggs), as well as a month of frontline/advantage/whichever you/vet think is best for her.

The stuff at the store I wouldn't touch... that's the stuff most of the intoxication reports are about. I've never seen a case with a properly dosed preventative from the vet.

Wash and comb out all the flea eggs from her fur.

Clean the house and get rid of all the flea eggs in stuff- bedding/toys in hot water, etc.

Re: MAJOR flea problem

I agree with the above poster. I would be more worried that my dog would become anemic with all the flea bites. Also your pup can become infested with tapeworms from ingesting the fleas. Plus all the skin problems that the flea infestation is causing.
