Double Canines

My one dog, Maggie, has double canines. My sister, becoming a vet tech this year, said that the puppy teeth need to be taken out as soon as possible to avoid infection and pain. Our vet told us that they were impacted and that we should leave them alone, though my sister disagreed with this. However, Maggie yelps whenever she tries to play tug-of-war, so I can't play it with her. Do double canines cause pain in the gums and do they need to be removed?

They need to be removed and soon before infection sets into the jaw.

it's a pretty common thing especially in small dogs, but yes they have to be removed.
