Our new (as of two months or so ago) dog, Phoenix, the black cur/mix started limping on Monday. By Thursday morning she was moving fine so we figured she saved herself a trip to the vet. Thursday night she jumped off the bed and started screaming.
So, our vet squeezed her in since I was dropping off/picking up one of our greys that was having foot surgery. It appears she has hip dysplasia and possibly avascular necrosis of her right femur (Legges-Perth disease). She on rest and rimadyl for a while and she'll go back in a couple months for a second x-ray. They got a pretty good shot today considering they didn't sedate her, but we'll need to do a follow up to see if there's further deterioration of the ball of the femur and get a better shot of her hip joint.
Oy...poor girl

The vet did say she'd have a really good quality of life with surgery to remove the dead bone (if she does have LPD) or possibly a hip replacement.
