Red face 11 yr. old Pekingese health!!!!!!

Hi my name is Mary,

I own an 11 year old Pekingese and I want to make his last few years of life amazing. I want to provide him with the best time ever. I have owned him for about a year and a half. Before me my in-laws owned him, but they did not take good care of him. I know how to take care of him, but he is starting to look his age and doesn't seem happy about it. I would love any suggestions on what I could do to maybe put a cute underbite smile back on his cute wrinkled face. Thanks for your time.

Sincerely,
Sweetness81

For an elderly dog, I would suggest regular checkups at the vet, regular tooth-brushing/lots of things to chew to keep the teeth clean, and annual teeth cleanings. Other than that, just keep him comfortable and happy... if he likes toys give him lots to play with. What is he eating currently?

Have the vet check him over and be sure he doesn't have arthritis. If he does there are many things you can do to help him out.

Be sure he doesn't have to jump up to get anyplace. Buy some pet steps.

Give him a nice soft place to sleep

Give him a really good quality food.

Hey! My parents still have their Pekingese - and he just turned 14 this past spring. Still lively, just not for as long as he uised to be.
I have to reiterate that limiting the amount of jumping on and off of anything really is improtant - it's those short legs and long back that has resulted in a sore "backend" of their little one.
Every now and then when he seems uncomfertable, Mom gives him 1/4 of a baby aspirin. Be careful of those little teeth on the underbite: his started falling out and now his tounge sticks out almost all the time. Still cute as ever though! Good luck with your peek!
