Curious....

I have heard that it is safe to give a dog pure canned pumpkin if you suspect that he/she has swallowed something small.

Have any of you tried or heard of this?

Can't say i've ever heard that one. Only thing I've heard about canned pumpkin is feeding it to deter a dog that eats it's own feces.

Re: Curious....

If your dog has swallowed something you may need to make a vet appointment to have it checked out. Pumpkin is not really going to help. Some people use it to make feces less desirable to eat. It is also used in constipation and non-infectious diarhea.

What did he swallow?

Re: Curious....

aye, if you think he swallowed something, take him to a vet for x-rays- esp if it's metal, it may be toxic.

As far as I know, pumpkin is only good for constipation. It doesn't neccessarily move out small objects that can get lodged in the tract.

So... vet.

Re: Curious....

What is it that you think he swallowed? While the vet is a good idea if it's possibly something toxic, many, many things will pass naturally. Most recently, I learned that silicon ear plugs pose no harm to a dog's GI tract.
