| Need advice... Hi everyone!
I'm new here and well, I am very worried about my dog (a 4-5 year old mutt...we don't know her exact age as she was adopted from a county shelter and they couldn't provide us with this info). About 2 months ago, I noticed that whenever she would go #2, she would groan, almost as if she were having difficulty passing the stool. There have been a few instances where I also saw small traces of blood in the stool, but upon further inspection, I realized that the blood actually came from her behind, which apparently bled at some points when she'd go #2. Additionally, I also noticed her licking back there with more frequency.
I took her to the vet about a week and a half ago and I asked him about this behavior and he looked at her and checked her out and said that he did not see anything wrong. She had her blood work done and he also took a stool sampe to check for anything in there. Nothing. He also shaved her hair back there to see if that was what was causing the irritation. This did seem to alleviate the problem somewhat, but today when she squatted down to do #2, she cried out and appeared to be in a lot of pain. This really upset me because I hate to see my dog in pain and I can't imagine what could possibly be irritating her.
I also forgot to add that when this problem first started, we immediately started adding canned food to her diet (she had previously only been eating dry food) and that also seemed to help...but only at times.
Has anyone here had any experience with this? What could it possibly be? Any tips or suggestions on what I can do to alleviate the problem?
Thank you! |
